The Cricket in Times Square

This isn’t really a picture book, but it’s a good book for to read as a bedtime story. Chester the Cricket comes to New York in someone’s picnic basket and finds himself in the middle of bustling Times Square. Luckily, he meets Mario, whose parents own a newsstand right in the subway. His adventures with the other animals in the city are fun to hear about. Crickets are supposed to be lucky. Will he bring luck to his family?
Everyone who comes to New York will visit Times Square. It’s fun to see all the bright signs. There are theaters in the area as well. You might want to check out the half-price ticket booth Tkts right in Times Square. There are usually people dressed up as characters from children’s television there as well. You might want to walk a little east on 42nd Street to Bryant Park. There you will find a little merry-go-round for smaller children plus lots of grass to picnic on (with tables). And you might want to go into the Children’s Room at the New York Public Library at Bryant Park to see the real Winnie the Pooh and friends. Link to the NYPL site.
